Rother District Council - Rother Local Plan - Regulation 18 Consultation
Rother District Council is currently preparing a new Local Plan, which will guide development and land use in the district over the period 2020 – 2040.
Draft Local Plan
The 12-week consultation is seeking public input on the strategic planning priorities it has identified for the new Local Plan. Key provisions include:
- A requirement for 20% Biodiversity Net Gain – One of very few authorities seeking a target over the 10% legal requirement;
- A housing target of 5,158 to 7,287 dwellings, at an average rate of 258 to 364 per year – The final target will be set at minimum level;
- Limited evidence on affordable housing requirement in the District, pending the results of a full viability assessment work;
- An employment need figure of 74,189sqm which will be constructed by 2040.
The deadline for submission is 5pm on Tuesday 23rd July 2024.
Call for Sites
The Council operates an “ongoing” Call for Sites exercise. With the Council at the beginning of a new Local Plan process, this is an excellent opportunity to submit a site for consideration.Any sites submitted through this exercise will be assessed and included in an updated Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (HELAA) – forming an important part of the evidence base for the new Local Plan.
The Council is looking for land for both greenfield and brownfield land for housing and/or economic uses that meets the following criteria:
- Located wholly or partly in the Council’s administrative boundary; AND
- Of any size adjoining a “Development Boundary” in the local plan; or
- Able to accommodate 5 or more dwellings if proposed for residential use; or
- Able to accommodate 0.25 hectares or 500sqm or more if proposed for economic development.
This may represent your opportunity to start to realise development on your land.
