While turbulent financial markets and falling house prices have seen the property market take a severe knock, latest statistics from Carter Jonas suggest that the upper end of the market in Yorkshire remains relatively buoyant.
The firm’s Harrogate office has recorded a 10% rise in the sale of million pound-plus homes in 2008 as compared to the same period in 2007. The total value of those properties sold this year is also 25% greater, suggesting that demand is still there for the right property at the top end of the market.
Recent figures from property website Primelocation show that of a total of 210 properties for sale in the region over the £1m mark, 42 are on the market with Carter Jonas, equating to a 20% market share, an increase on 12 months ago.
Tony Wright, partner at Carter Jonas in Harrogate, said: “These figures suggest that there is light amid the current doom and gloom, and that while it has undoubtedly been a tough year, both buyers and sellers at the top end of the market are undeterred.”
Carter Jonas has four offices in the Yorkshire region, in Leeds, York, Huddersfield and Harrogate, covering all areas of property including residential, rural land management, commercial and planning.
