London, 2 June 2014, Over the last fourteen years, Newby Hall near Ripon, Yorkshire, has built up an enviable reputation for the quality, diversity and popularity of its Contemporary Sculpture Park. Curated by Newby’s owner, Lucinda Compton and staged in an atmospheric woodland setting, this year’s show is sponsored by national property consultancy Carter Jonas and will run from 4 June – 28 September.
Twenty-five well known and emerging artists will be featured, with a total of 34 figurative and abstract sculptures in bronze, glass, metal, marble and wood. Among the well-known sculptors are Lucy Kinsella, Anthony Turner, Michael Lyons, Jane Freud (daughter of Lucien) and David Williams-Ellis whose ‘Nymph’ was bought by the Comptons several years ago and is a much loved feature of the gardens, standing in Newby’s lily pond.
Some of Newby’s previous exhibitions have featured a single artist, with successful shows from Emma Stothard and Reece Ingram staged in the beautiful gardens that surround the late 17th century Christopher Wren house. This year sees a return to the mix of media, styles and scale that has proved to be a winning combination with collectors and the general public and its siting in the woodland and orchard encourages visitors to explore lesser known parts of the 40 acre gardens.
Mark Granger, chief executive, Carter Jonas, said: “The Comptons have long been attracting renowned sculptors from all over the country. The gardens at Newby Hall offer the most sensational backdrop for the artists to showcase their work and we are delighted to be sponsoring this year’s exhibition.”
All the sculptures will be for sale and will be previewed at a VIP Private View on Tuesday 3rd June, jointly hosted by Newby Hall and main exhibition sponsors Carter Jonas.
