02 October 2014, A leading UK charity has received a cash boost thanks to the pedal power of a national property consultancy.
Employees of Carter Jonas and other business colleagues teamed up ahead of this year’s Tour de France for the Carter Jonas Pedalthon arranged by Bath sporting event organiser Breathingspace.
Philip Marshall, commercial property partner and head of the Carter Jonas Bath office, lead a team that included colleagues Colin Scragg, Tim Brooksbank and Euan Woodman in the one-day 80-mile Yorkshire Challenge, a more gruelling alternative to the 40-mile Scenic Route.
The Bath team were among 300 hundred riders who met at Ripley Castle in Yorkshire and battled against torrential rain and wind rasing £14,000 in total for Sustrans and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Carter Jonas raised £5,000 for Bristol-based Sustrans, which works with communities, policy-makers and partner organisations so people can choose healthier, cleaner and cheaper journeys, on foot, by bike or public transport.
Philip Marshall said: “The weather was against us but it was a fantastic day and brought together Carter Jonas colleagues from nearly 30 offices. We’re delighted to have supported two deserving charities and look forward to continuing our commitment in 2015.”
Next year’s Carter Jonas Pedalthon is scheduled for May 8 and Breathingspace’s Jayne Fishwick said: “Yorkshire Pedalthon is a Tour de France legacy ride raising valuable funds for two deserving causes, which next year will be Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Land Aid.
“There will be new routes, including a long ride of about 70 miles and a shorter ride of about 40 miles. Routes will be confirmed and registration will open in November and we are aiming to attract 450-500 riders.
“Iconic Cycling Events, the new umbrella identity for our portfolio of cycling events which includes Bike Bath, Bike Oxford and the Pedalthon, will be organising the 2015 challenge and we are inviting firms to join Carter Jonas as partners and sponsors to maximise the benefit of their involvement.”
