29 October 2015, Following the acquisition of a new headquarters building on behalf of The Diocese of Oxford, the administrative headquarters of the Church of England for the Thames Valley region, Carter Jonas has brought to the market the Diocese’s existing premises, Church House, in North Hinksey, OX2, Oxford.
Church House is a prominent detached office building which totals 8,054 sq ft (784.15 sq m) and is set in 1.1 acre grounds on Oxford’s outskirts. It comprises a former vicarage that has been extended over a number of years to provide administrative offices for the Diocese of Oxford. Arranged over ground, first and part second floors the current arrangement offers a mixture of cellular and open plan accommodation. The property sits in an attractive part walled and landscaped environment with parking to the front and lawned gardens to the side and rear.
In early 2016, The Diocese will be relocating its 90 staff to Banister House, Langford Locks in Kidlington. Its new headquarters will comprise 14,686 sq ft of office accommodation and allow it to expand its operations, providing a modern office environment, and a resource and training centre for the whole diocese, especially focusing on education now that it is running a multi-school academy trust in Oxfordshire.
Carter Jonas considers that Church House may be suitable for a range of different uses such as a care home, or residential conversion of the existing office use, subject to the necessary planning consents.
Jon Silversides, partner at Carter Jonas, acting on behalf of the Diocesan said: “Church House has been in the Diocesan’s ownership since the late 1960s. Such properties with so much potential and location rarely become available in Oxfordshire. We anticipate a high level of demand from private individuals, developers, care home operators, and those businesses which have an appetite to buy their own premises.”
Due to the potential range of uses, subject to the necessary planning consents, a guide price is not being quoted.
