27 September 2012, It’s obvious that after 450 years The Old Post House at Heckfield has seen a fair bit of life.
After starting as a huntsman’s cottage, when it was around 200 years old it became a shop, with a post office added at the age of 320 years. And at 420 years old it became a house again, although it is definitely not retired!
In fact a programme of sympathetic improvement has given it a new lease of life, so who knows what the next 200 years will hold? It’s ready for its next owners to launch it on another chapter in its hectic life.
"The house is on the edge of the village, where the 1.22 acre plot backs onto fields and woodland, and enjoys far-reaching views," says Simon Randall, of Carter Jonas.
"As can be imagined, there’s a wealth of exposed timbers and brickwork and three lovely reception rooms, each distinctive in character. The kitchen is comprehensively fitted and opens to the heavily beamed breakfast room, off which is the rear hall with garden and shower rooms."
"On the first floor, both master and guest bedrooms have en-suite shower rooms and there are two further bedrooms and the family bathroom. On the second floor there is a loft study area leading to bedroom five."
"The detached barn houses a workshop and two garages. The gardens extend right around the property, although primarily to rear. Shielded from the road by mature hedging and adjoining woodland to one side and farmland to the rear, the grounds offer a high degree of privacy, and a provide a most attractive setting with extensive lawns and well stocked borders. A lightly wooded area with summer house, a vegetable area, an orchard and a pergola covered walkway as well as a large terrace complete this package of delights."
Guide price is £1.1 million. For more information, contact Carter Jonas on 01256 473388 or email Basingstoke@carterjonas.co.uk
