Carter Jonas has secured 30,000 sq ft of office space for Highways England at Calder Park in Wakefield after agreeing a 15-year lease with park owner, Peel L&P, represented by Savills, for an undisclosed rent.
The office space will be the second letting on the park for Highways England and will spread across a two-storey building. Set to open in early 2021, the space will accommodate a number of Highways England’s operational staff responsible for managing the road network across Yorkshire.
Chris Hartnell, Associate Partner, Carter Jonas, said: “Calder Park will provide Highways England’s employees with an exceptional environment that will support their wellbeing and ultimately be a great place to work. We have been advising Highways England on its estates programme and this deal shows the organisation’s commitment to ensuring offices are positioned close to the motorway network to provide the best services for their customers.”
Andrew Farrer, Development Manager at Peel L&P said: “The momentum continues to build at Calder Park and we’re delighted Highways England have made the decision to increase their current office take up. We have more land available for further office development and, with this commitment from such a prestigious occupier, we’re confident there are prosperous times ahead.”
Paul Fairhurst, Head of Savills Leeds Office, comments: “Calder Park will offer a perfect combination of high-quality office space, an idyllic setting within a nature reserve and a convenient location close to the M1 and M62, making it an ideal solution for Highways England.”
Calder Park is set in 240 acres of land and has detailed planning consent for a total of 1.5 million sq ft of business space. The site incorporates a 100-acres of dedicated nature reserve and meets the highest environmental standards. On-site amenities include a range of food and drink outlets and a 74-bed Premier Inn. Other occupiers include West Yorkshire Police, OE Electrics, Miller Homes and Taylor Wimpey.
Calder Park is located at Junction 39 of the M1 offering easy access to the rest of Yorkshire and London. Highways England was advised by Carter Jonas. Peel L&P was represented by Savills.
