Our aims and why EDI matters
Equality, diversity and inclusivity (EDI) are important to any organisation’s culture, and Carter Jonas is no different. Employing a diverse group of people means we embrace different perspectives, ideas and talents, meaning we can best service for our clients and the communities in which we work.
Our commitment to being an open and inclusive organisation is at the heart of our People Strategy 2025. To drive true change at Carter Jonas, we are building strong EDI policies, sharing and improving best practice across recruitment, training and development, reward and recognition of our network.
EDI & what we do
We are committed to achieving a better level of EDI across the firm, and have a range of training courses, internal webinars, and other initiatives that run year-round.
Our robust EDI strategy is further supported by our very own Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity Network which is open to all members of the business. The Network meets regularly to raise awareness of inclusivity and diversity, to represent minority groups, to provide a safe space for our people to discuss and express their views, experiences and concerns, and to identify channels of support. Every year we invite guest speakers or run activities internally to help promote awareness across the business.
Equality
Carter Jonas is an equal pay employer, paying individuals the same amount for undertaking the same job role in the same location. We use external benchmarking, our annual pay audit and thorough recruitment processes to establish this. We also provide Equal Opportunity and Unconscious Bias training to all line managers and provide support and training in how to hold good quality performance review meetings.
We have been reporting on our gender pay gap since 2017 and, during that time, have seen an overall decrease in the mean gap from 30.47% to 24.12%. Reducing our gender pay gap further is an important long-term goal, and we are investing in ongoing measures to reduce this and accelerate the pace of change.
Diversity
Diversity and inclusion are a key focus for Carter Jonas and we are committed to improving cultural balance within our firm. We actively engage with Changing the Face of Property, which draws together industry partners to drive forward diversity initiatives and change from the top.
To encourage diversity at entry level, we support apprenticeships and appreciate the benefit in ensuring people from all backgrounds can find a route into our industry. We have a strong Carter Jonas School Ambassador network to raise the profile of a career in surveying to those with less advantageous socioeconomic backgrounds compared to the more traditional talent pipelines into property.
Inclusivity
We are proud to be using the Rare Contextual Recruitment System (CRS) which allows us to understand each applicant’s achievements in the context in which they have been gained. We seek to recruit the best people, from every background, regardless of their personal circumstances, and the CRS help us to do that, along with supporting our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion commitment.
We provide a recruitment process where you can be yourself, and we accommodate all candidates by providing an inclusive application and interview process. If you need support with your application, have a disability, or require assistance at any stage of the recruitment process, please contact recruitment@carterjonas.co.uk or 01733 588643.
Carter Jonas is proud to have signed the Armed Forces covenant pledge and is committed to offering career opportunities to ex-forces personnel and their families, recognising and valuing the varied and unique skillset they bring with them. We actively support the recruitment of veterans and reservists, ensuring we have a fair process to give these groups accessible employment and training opportunities.
