The Land Settlement Association (LSA) built an estate of smallholdings in the late 1930s just south of Great Abington. This was one of about 20 such estates across the country, established to provide employment opportunities for long-term unemployed man coming from depressed, industrial areas. The Abington site extended to around 690 acres and comprised of 62 smallholdings. Each lot comprised around 11+ acres and included a modest house, outbuildings and piggeries. The LSA in Abington, closed in 1983 at which time, the current owners purchased their house and land to continue with their businesses. The Neighbourhood Plan 2018-2031 extended permitted development rights to the dwellings and former piggeries.
